A keto diet plan helps you to follow a ketogenic lifestyle or get you into ketosis. This plan involves the consumption of foods that are high in fats, moderate in protein, and low in carbs. The main aim of this diet plan is to make your body use fat as a source of energy rather than glucose as it always does. But first, we have to know what is Ketosis which is the main reason behind a Keto Diet Plan.

What is Ketosis?

In Ketosis, your body uses fat as a source of energy rather than glucose. When you are in ketosis the ketones in your body are elevated. What are ketones you ask? Ketones are produced by the body when it breaks down fat. These ketones are then used by the body for energy. Ketosis can help you to lose weight and can also offer a lot of other health benefits such as lowering triglyceride levels and controlled appetite. You can get into Ketosis by following a Keto Diet Plan

What foods to eat in a Keto Diet Plan?

A Keto diet plan consists of foods that are high in fats and low in carbs. This helps the body to run out of glycogen stores and use fat as fuel for various activities. Here are some foods you can consume on a Keto diet

Animal Products

Animal products like seafood and eggs are consumed. Many fishes are high in omega-3 fatty acids which are really beneficial for the brain and heart health.

Cheese

You can also consume various kinds of cheese like cheddar cheese which also provides a decent amount of calcium.

Coconut Milk

Milk such as coconut milk can also be consumed in a keto diet which has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Non-starchy vegetables

Vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage have no starch and can be consumed in a keto diet. These vegetables contain lots of vitamins and minerals and also help with digestion in the body.

What foods to avoid in a Keto Diet?

In a keto diet, foods that are high in carbs should be avoided. This is done to reduce the glycogen stores in the body because fats are the main source of energy in the keto diet. Here are some food to avoid if you are on a Keto diet.

Cereals

Foods such as cereal which are high in carbs and sugar are not suitable for a ketogenic diet.

Juices

Various fruit juices should also be avoided on a Keto diet since these are high in sugar and can exit you out of ketosis.

Beans

There are many beans that are high in carbohydrates which is not suitable for a keto diet as carbohydrates in a keto diet are consumed in very low amounts.

Sugary Drinks

Sugary drinks are not suitable if you are in ketosis. This is because the main aim of ketosis is to use fat from the body as a source of energy. Consuming sugary drinks in the body will promote glycogen storage in the body and exit you out of ketosis.
